The 7th FAD- Conference „Challenge – Exhaust Aftertreatment for Diesel Engines“ was held on 4 and 5 November 2009 in Dresden. 2010 participants from 9 countries as well as 15 exhibitors accepted the invitation.

For the last years the increase of energy efficiency and an improved environmental compatibility were the driving forces in further developing combustion engines. The request of an at least locally emission-free electric drive is big but its realization is a tremendous challenge. For several more decades we will drive our vehicles, stationary machines and plants with the significantly improved combustion engine. In this process the energy efficient diesel engines that are optimized in respect to harmful substances will play a major role. Besides this for the diesel engine drive in commercial vehicles and non-road-applications are no alternatives conceivable. Due to this the most important task remains not only to reduce pollutants but also the fuel consumption of combustion engines.

It will be only possible with a combination of an extremely efficient combustion process with an exhaust aftertreatment functioning reliably under all application conditions.

The four sessions with altogether 23 contributions displayed possible approaches and development focuses of exhaust aftertreatment technologies for passenger cars, commercial vehicles and large diesel engines. The two conference days offered the participants various possibilities to exchange ideas and experiences as well as to discuss constructively.
